nullGrowing up on a farm in Wyoming taught me perseverance. My parents, hard-working and inspiring, taught me that life is full of obstacles-and I have to choose how I will overcome them.
History of a Pipe Dream is the story of my struggles to overcome the prejudice that existed (and to a certain degree, continues to exist) regarding women in the field of industrial construction. I started out as a common laborer and worked my way up to journeyman, and along the way,I got to know people from all walks of life. Some amused me, some inspired me, but most just stood in my way.
And then there was Jack, one of the most helpful men I ever met-who was also at the same time, the most destructive force I would know in my life.
Through it all, I fought hard to stay focused on my goal: to be accepted as an equal. I chose to pursue a career that challenged me as fiercely as it challenged the perceptions and prejudices of others. The art of survival I learned so well as a child and a young women would soon be the key to my success.
This is a journey into a world that few women have known, but all women can relate to.
